More therapy
We learned today that Kirah needs to start occupational therapy and speech therapy(most likely), in addition to physical therapy. After we jump through all the things that need to be done with insurance, she should be going in for her evaluations in about a month or so. We are not so sure about the speech therapy, but we definitely agree with the occupational. She is having quite a few problems with her fine motor skills, as well as sensory issues. I will know more after she has an evaluation, and I sit down with the therapist.
Another week
Well, another week of PT has gone by. This week, Kirah REALLY didn't appreciate the therapy at all. She was okay at first, but then, she was squirming all over the place, and was trying to assert herself and the fact that she didn't like what was going on my making screeching noises and trying to get away. I tried my best to entertain her with balls, bubbles and anything else I could find, but that only worked for so long. She hasn't taken any more steps. It is my hope she will become more comfortable with the process as time goes on. You can really tell she feels like she is losing control in those situations, so I try to make it so she is involved in the therapy and contributing. In addition to the exercises, I have to brush her with a special brush for brain therapy. It is supposed to help create awareness of her body in space.

2nd week
Kirah had her second PT appointment yesterday. When Kirah saw the therapy ball, she went right over to it and tried to climb on. It was so cute! Then, the therapist put her on the ball, and Kirah was going to town bouncing up and down. I think she was trying to dance. Then, towards the end of the session, there was a wheeled walker for another patient there. Kirah took a great interest in it, and all she wanted to do for the rest of the time was push the walker around. So, the therapist was working with her walking backwards. Didn't work too well, but she tried. At the end, Kirah let me put her shoes on without any trouble.
She enjoys sitting on her car and reaching for things. We fly around at home, and when she washes her hands, I lift her up so she has to stretch her legs out behind her. Doing in while we wash her hands distracts her from trying to keep her in that position.
